D.E. Hughes Distinguished Chair

Position No. 00050592.  The Department of English at Southern Methodist University invites outstanding applicants for a tenured Full Professor appointment to the D.E. Hughes Distinguished Chair beginning Fall 2021. The field is open. We welcome applications in any and all fields of literary study, broadly defined, and candidates whose expertise would provide leadership to the Department and its connections to affiliated programs and departments in the liberal arts. The holder of this chair, generously funded by the Hughes Family Trust, should have a major research agenda and be committed to active involvement in a dynamic department and its well-endowed Ph.D. program. The department has substantial plans to initiate an array of postdoctoral fellowships, symposia, and visiting writers, and the holder of this chair will have the opportunity to be involved in these initiatives. We especially encourage applications from women and members of other underrepresented groups.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in English or related discipline at the time of the appointment. Applications should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and contact information for three references.  Review of applications will begin January 2, 2021, but the committee will continue to accept applications until the position is filled. Please submit applications to http://apply.interfolio.com/81611. Questions about the position and process may be directed to the chair of the committee, Ezra Greenspan (egreensp@smu.edu).
