Visiting Assistant Professor of English

The Department of English and Communications at Norwich University invites applications for a one-year appointment, with the possibility of renewal for an additional and final year, as a Visiting Assistant Professor of English who will also serve as the Director of the Center for Writing. The typical course load for this full-time, 9-month position is 4/3 with a 1/1 reduction for directing the Center for Writing.

Responsibilities:

As a faculty member in the Department of English and Communications, the successful candidate will teach first-year writing with the opportunity to teach a range of advanced writing courses such as Professional and Technical Writing, Writing for the Web, Rhetorical Criticism, and Advanced Composition, which are capped at 15 students per section. Other responsibilities include pursuit of an active research agenda and meaningful service to the department, university, and discipline. 

As the Director of the Center for Writing, the successful candidate will support the mission of the center and its strategic plan, as well as oversee its budgeting, assessment, and outreach. Although the day-to-day administration of the Center is the responsibility of the Assistant Director, the Director collaborates with the AD on ongoing development, including event programming and training our staff of 10-14 peer coaches.

 


Requirements:

Minimum qualifications include a PhD in Rhetoric and Composition or related field by July 2021; a minimum of one year demonstrated experience in program administration (FYW, Writing Center, WAC, or similar); demonstrated excellence in teaching first-year and/or advanced writing courses; commitment to service; and potential for successful research and publication. 

Preferred qualifications include experience in writing assessment and curriculum development. Candidates with expertise in professional writing, technical communication, media studies, or writing in the disciplines are especially welcome.
