Lecturer in Spanish

The Department of Romance Languages & Literatures and the Humanities Collegiate Division at the University of Chicago are accepting applications for two full-time, one-year renewable, benefits-eligible, lecturer positions in Spanish. Responsibilities will include teaching 7 courses in Spanish language per year across three quarters according to the needs of the program in addition to some administrative and/or coordinating duties.

Superior level of proficiency in Spanish as defined by ACTFL is required. An M.A. or equivalent in Spanish linguistics, applied linguistics, translation, second-language teaching or acquisition or a related field is required by the start date of the position. A minimum of one year of experience teaching Spanish at the college or post-secondary level and experience in materials development are required. Proficiency in English demonstrated by a minimum of one year of teaching and/or studying in an English-speaking country and/or a TOEFL score of at least 104 overall (and 26 in each area) is required. Ability to teach advanced-level language, heritagelanguage courses, and/or Spanish language for the professions is desirable. Knowledge of one or more Latin American dialects is desirable.

These appointments will start on 1 September 2020. This position is contingent upon final budgetary approval.
