The Department of English at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applicants for an entry-level, tenure-track position in Computational Linguistics. The successful applicant will be housed in English while playing a key role in our recently developed interdisciplinary undergraduate program in Computational Linguistics. This new program involves faculty from the Departments of English, World Languages and Literatures, and Computer Science and Engineering and confers the Bachelor of Science degree. In addition, the candidate will also teach courses in the core areas of linguistics populated by students from a variety of majors, requiring the ability to reach students with varying amounts of linguistics preparation. While we invite applicants with any specialization within Computational Linguistics, those specializing in natural language processing or computational sociolinguistics are particularly encouraged to apply, as are those with industry experience. Our tenure-track faculty teach and mentor in the graduate program and engage in scholarly research, typically teaching a 2/2 load. The start date for this position is July 1, 2021.
- A Ph.D. in linguistics, computer science, or a related field in hand by the start date
- An established or clearly developing research agenda in any sub-area of computational linguistics
- A record of, or potential for, publishing in top-tier journals and presses in relevant fields
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching
- Ability to teach a range of courses in the core areas of linguistics at the undergraduate and graduate levels
- Ability to teach relevant undergraduate courses in computer science
- Evidence of, or potential to, attract external grant funding
- Evidence of attention to diversity, equity, and inclusion in research, teaching, and/or service
