Visiting Assistant Professor of English, open field

The Department of English at Loyola University New Orleans seeks applications for a visiting assistant professor, to begin August 2021, with a promising program of teaching and research in any area of literary studies or composition and rhetoric. Preference will be given to those candidates who bring expertise in critical race studies, postcolonial theory, or disability studies. This one-year position may be renewed.

The successful applicant will not only demonstrate excellence and imagination in their research area but will be able to teach courses appealing to undergraduates both in the discipline and across the university. The department is especially looking for applicants who demonstrate strong mentorship and advising potential for a small undergraduate campus, as well as applicants who show an avid interest in working collaboratively with students and colleagues.

Responsibilities

·        Teach seven courses per year, including courses in the general education core, introductory and upper-division courses in the English department, and courses for interdisciplinary minors

·        Pursue an active, innovative research and publication agenda

·        Advise senior theses and independent research projects

·        Engage and support students from diverse backgrounds

·        Develop courses for the department and the Certificate in Editing and Publishing

·        Advise and mentor English majors

Requirements                        

Applicants should have earned by time of employment a terminal degree in an appropriate discipline, as well as have demonstrated ample teaching experience and an active research agenda.
