Assistant Professor of French and Francophone Studies

The University of North Florida Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures, in collaboration with the Africana Studies program, invites applications for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor of French and Francophone Studies with a specialization in the study of Haitian and/or Francophone Caribbean Language, Literature and Culture. Candidates working in Francophone Sub-Saharan African literature and culture studies may also apply. A PhD (completed by August 3, 2021) in French and Francophone Studies, or in an Africana Studies-related field, is required; only candidates who will have the PhD in hand by that date should apply. This position (3-3 teaching load), together with promotion and tenure appraisals, will be based in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures. The successful candidate will also have an official affiliation with the Africana Studies program and will be expected to actively participate in the Africana Studies intellectual community and mentor its students. Our department considers the diversity of our students to be an essential element in the success of our academic programs. The successful candidate will excel at teaching courses throughout the French/Francophone Studies and Africana Studies curriculum and will demonstrate a commitment to engagement with the wider university community. Candidates with expertise in a secondary area such as gender studies, post-colonial studies and créolité, diaspora studies, digital humanities, environmental justice, or Francophone visual and media cultures are strongly encouraged to apply.
