VISITING ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN RUSSIAN LITERATURE AND CULTURE

The Department of German & Russian at the University of California-Davis invites applications for a 2-year Visiting Assistant Professor appointment effective 7/1/2021. Research should focus on Russian literature and culture of the long nineteenth century, with a concentration in one or more of the following areas: prose, drama, visual culture, or poetry. A comparative or interdisciplinary approach, incorporating race and empire studies or gender studies, is particularly welcome. Applicants should possess native or near-native fluency in Russian and English with experience teaching courses in Russian literature/culture in translation and Russian language classes.

The appointee must possess evidence of scholarly promise and successful teaching experience in both language and literature. Applicants should have the ability to teach courses dedicated to single authors (Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, and Chekhov) as well as a broad range of undergraduate courses and advanced Russian language courses. The successful applicant must have the ability to advise undergraduate students and assist in the preparation of undergraduate program review materials. A PhD. in Slavic Languages and Literatures or a related field is required prior to the first day of classes on September 22, 2021. For full consideration, applications should be received by February 28, 2021.
