Tenure-track Assistant Professor of Chinese Language, History, and Culture

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Lenoir-Rhyne University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Chinese Language, History, and Culture, beginning in the Fall of 2021. We seek an educator and scholar qualified to teach Mandarin, and to develop courses on the histories, and (for example) the comparative literatures, politics, and cultures of Chinese peoples and regions, as well as those significantly impacted by Chinese peoples. The focus of the position is therefore explicitly postcolonial (in any region or era), and we welcome applications by scholars interested in indigeneity, hybridity, resistance, and diasporas. We welcome candidates who will bring unique experience, expertise, and commitments to the position.

It is our expectation that the contours of the position will grow around the successful candidate in a new College committed to innovative collaboration in teaching, scholarship, and activism. The successful applicant will either hold a Ph.D. or be an advanced ABD.

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences strives to be a reputable and distinctive home for scholarly and vocational transformation for service in the world, built around and upon a complex and inclusive company of colleagues. We are committed to educating our students in the traditions of the Liberal Arts for lives of meaningful service in a diverse and composite world. Persons whose background, experience, philosophy, and practice align with these goals are especially encouraged to apply.

Please submit a cover letter, vita, a statement on your philosophy of teaching and scholarship, and three letters of reference to LR's employment page. Please direct any queries about the position, the College, or Lenoir-Rhyne, to lrusinicist@gmail.com.
