The School of World Languages and Cultures at California State University, Monterey Bay invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in Spanish Language, Peninsular Literature and Culture starting in the Fall of 2021. We are particularly interested in candidates who have previous experience teaching a wide range of courses on Peninsular Literature and Cultures and Spanish language courses. Desirable qualifications include ability to teach Spanish for Heritage Speakers, a variety of courses in Hispanic cultures and Spanish for the Professions. Ph.D. at the time of appointment is required. As a Hispanic Serving Institution, the position provides an excellent opportunity to teach, mentor, engage and help students with a wide range of backgrounds, including heritage speakers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

 

  • Teach lower and upper division courses
  • Advise Spanish Majors and Minors
  • Strong commitment to developing an innovative curriculum
  • Participate in School of World Languages and Cultures governance and curriculum development
  • Typical teaching load is 12 credits per semester

 


Minimum Qualifications:

 

 

 

  • Ph.D. in Hispanic Literature by the time of appointment from an accredited doctoral program
  • Native or near native linguistic ability in both Spanish and English
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching
  • Ability to teach all levels of Spanish language courses
  • Scholarly achievement or promise
  • Experience working effectively in an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community
  • Expertise in Peninsular Literature and Culture

 


Preferred Qualification:

 

 

 

  • Experience in teaching Spanish for Heritage Speakers
  • Ability to teach Spanish for the Professions courses
  • Ability to teach a wide range of courses in Hispanic Cultures
