Assistant Professor of French

The Department of Modern Languages at Roanoke College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of French to begin in Aug. 2021.

Candidates will be expected to teach language at all levels and upper-division courses such as phonetics and phonology, contemporary Francophone culture, and French for professions. Additionally, candidates will contribute to the general education core of this liberal arts institution and plan and implement short-term study away programs. The teaching load is 3-3 with a May Term course every third year.

We seek a flexible, dynamic, and creative colleague to assist in meeting the curricular needs of present and future students and to successfully promote foreign language study. Candidates need to be committed to the liberal arts tradition, to excellence in undergraduate teaching and advising, to ongoing faculty development and have an active research agenda.

Requirements: Ph.D. in hand and professional level proficiency in French and English. To apply, submit the following materials via Interfolio: a cover letter, CV, concise statements of teaching philosophy and current research, and three confidential letters of recommendation. Review of applications will begin in February and will continue until the position is filled.
