Assistant Professor of English (African-American Literature)

The Department of English at Whittier College seeks to fill a tenure-track position for an Assistant Professor specializing in African-American literature and contributing courses in a wide range of early and nineteenth-century American Literatures. The English department features tracks in literary studies and creative writing and is developing new courses in media studies.  Department members also teach courses in subjects and modes of their own interest. A successful candidate will have a PhD in hand by August 2020, along with a commitment to culturally responsive and experiential teaching and advising. Applicants must submit a letter of application, graduate transcript, CV, three reference letters, a brief statement of teaching philosophy, and a twenty-page sample of their scholarship by October 18, 2019. Reference letters must be submitted by the referring parties and not come directly from the candidate. Preliminary interviews will be conducted by video conference in December and campus interviews will take place in late January.
