Instructor of Portuguese and Spanish

The Department of Hispanic Studies at the College of Charleston, located in Charleston, South Carolina, invites applications for an Instructor of Portuguese and Spanish.  This is a non-tenure track position.  Full benefits and a competitive salary are offered. Position begins August 2021. 

A Master’s degree in Portuguese, Spanish or a related field is required.  Alternatively, a Ph.D. in Portuguese, Spanish or a related field with all coursework completed other than a dissertation defense (ABD) is acceptable.  Near-native fluency in Portuguese, Spanish and English are required as well.  The successful applicant will teach undergraduate courses in Portuguese, Spanish, and Portuguese Language Literature and in Translation, 4/4 load, and will assist with building an established Portuguese program that also includes a minor in Portuguese and Brazilian Studies. Additional duties may include, but are not limited to, participating in department and college functions; advising students and clubs; and occasionally directing summer and semester study programs in Spain and Latin America. Collegiate teaching experience required.
