Assistant Professor, Spanish

The University of Northern Iowa’s Department of Languages and Literatures seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of  Spanish, starting August 2021. Primary areas of teaching and research are Latin American and Latinx literatures and cultures. Secondary areas are Spanish K-12 Teaching or Spanish/English Translation or French.

The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Spanish or related field. ABDs in Spanish (or related field) will be considered with evidence of degree completion by August 2021.

Required qualifications include an active research agenda in Latin American and/or Latinx literatures and cultures; teaching, research, and/or professional experience in one or more of the following: Spanish K-12 Teaching (with documentable K-12 teaching experience) or
Spanish/English Translation or French; native/near-native language proficiency in Spanish and English; ability to teach in Spanish and English; and a record of or demonstrated potential for excellence in research and teaching.

Preference will be given to candidates with teaching and/or research that incorporates Latinx, Afrolatino, and/or Indigenous literatures and cultures; experience working with pre-service teachers; experience teaching with technology and/or online courses; commitment to community engagement; and experience or demonstrated potential for teaching Spanish heritage speakers of Spanish.
