Lecturer in Spanish Language and Culture and Program Administration

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese Studies at the University of Florida seeks an instructor of Spanish language and culture at the rank of Lecturer. This is a 9-month, renewable, non-tenure-track position with an emphasis on language program administration. The start date is August 16, 2021.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching three courses per semester mainly in the Lower Division Spanish program, with an occasional course at the Upper Division level (based on departmental need);
  • Coordinating the operations of the language program, including communicating department and university policies to instructors, scheduling courses, ordering textbooks, etc.; and
  • Working with undergraduate students by assisting them with placement and/or registration and by fairly applying department and university policies to address their concerns.

 

This position requires participation in departmental duties, including committee work, ongoing training in pedagogy, curriculum development, and supervision of instructors.

 

The ideal candidate will have: a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Spanish or in a closely related field (M.A. or M.Ed. will be considered if other qualifications are outstanding); native or native-like fluency in English and Spanish; demonstrated excellence as a Spanish instructor; experience as a supervisor and/or coordinator in a college-level Spanish program; experience with learning management systems; exceptional organizational and conflict-resolution skills; and a strong commitment to working with diverse populations.

Additional desirable qualifications include: interest and/or experience in leading study abroad programs and in Spanish for the Professions (particularly Legal Spanish); and a working knowledge of Portuguese.
