Assistant Professor or Associate Professor - Digital Learning

The Department of Germanic Studies at the University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a position in Digital Learning with a focus on Language and Literacy Studies (rank: assistant professor or associate professor). The successful candidate will maintain an active research and publication program related to a specialization such as teaching and learning language and culture in digital environments; education policy; the design, compilation, and evaluation of digital corpora; assessment; digital literacy; and transdisciplinary digital tools and techniques such as analytics, metadata, multimodality, and visualization. The successful candidate will also demonstrate commitment to both undergraduate and graduate education, including as a mentor, research supervisor, and curriculum developer.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. (by August 15, 2020), in either Germanic Studies or a relevant field such as Education, Digital Humanities, and Second Language Acquisition and provide evidence of: native or near-native command of the German language, excellent teaching (in both German and English), an established publication record, the ability to design and disseminate digital, multimodal resources and tools for language learning and the study of culture, the potential to supervise and mentor teaching assistants at a large research university with an increasingly diverse student body, the ability to plan, implement, and evaluate curricular reform/revision, the ability to engage in departmental assessment activities, the ability to supervise theses and dissertations on topics in digital multiliteracies, including corpus design and research design, and broad engagement in the life of a department.
