Open Rank Faculty Position in English—Rhetoric and Composition Studies

The University of Washington English Department invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Rhetoric and Composition at the rank of Advanced Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. Assistant Professors should be at least two years in rank at the time of application.

Area of specialization is open. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. Candidates will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate level which may include courses on composition theory and pedagogy, rhetorical theory, discourse analysis, applied linguistics, technical writing and communication, research methods, and digital and multimodal composition. The successful candidate will contribute to a diverse and inclusive community of faculty, staff, and students. This position has an anticipated start date of Autumn 2020, and will have a 9-month service period. The candidate will be expected to begin a rotation in the WPA position of a large writing program by the start of their second year.

Qualifications

Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in English or a related field, or foreign equivalent, by the start of the appointment. Significant experience in Writing Program Administration, at the level of Director or Associate/Assistant Director of a writing program or writing center, is required. Successful candidates should demonstrate a strong publication record; a record of innovative and effective teaching as well as student advising; and active participation in service to the university and profession.
