Assistant Professor of French

The Department of World Languages and Cultures at Iowa State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of French to begin fall 2020.  Generalist with a research emphasis in pre-20th-century France/French Studies. Teaching includes 4 courses per academic year at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum with emphasis on French and Francophone cultural studies; interest in teaching interdisciplinary courses in international studies or global studies; commitment to actively recruiting French majors and minors; and ability to participate actively in the undergraduate curriculum in the Languages and Cultures for Professions Program.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in French or a related discipline by time of appointment with demonstrated commitment to a research program in pre-20th century French or Francophone Studies
  • Near-native proficiency in French and English

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to participate actively in undergraduate curriculum in Languages and Cultures for Professions program
  • Interest in teaching interdisciplinary courses in international studies or global studies
  • Ability and interest in teaching on-line and/or blended courses
  • Commitment to undergraduate student recruitment and retention
  • Demonstrated commitment to academic service
  • Proven ability to work with diverse populations of students, faculty, and staff
