The Department of World Languages and Cultures at Iowa State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Spanish to begin fall 2020. Generalist with an emphasis in 20th and 21st century Spain.The successful candidate will teach 4 courses per academic year at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum and have an interest in teaching courses in film and/or media studies. Interest in teaching interdisciplinary courses in international studies or global studies also desirable; and candidate should have the ability to participate actively in the undergraduate curriculum in the Languages and Cultures for Professions Program.
Required Qualifications:
- PhD in Spanish or a related discipline at the time of appointment
- Demonstrated commitment to developing an active research agenda regarding 20th and 21st century Spain
- Near-native proficiency in Spanish and English
- Record of excellence in teaching Spanish
Preferred Qualifications:
- Interest in teaching courses on recent or emerging media (audio/visual technologies, comics, social media, mobile apps, the internet, television, etc.) as well as Spanish and/or Latin American film studies
- Ability to participate actively in the undergraduate curriculum in Languages and Cultures for Professions
- Commitment to undergraduate student recruitment and retention
- Demonstrated commitment to academic service
- Proven ability to work with diverse populations of students, faculty, and staff
