Assistant Professor of Francophone Studies

The department of Romance Studies at Cornell University is searching for an Assistant professor (tenure line) in Francophone Studies. Preference will be given to a researcher working on Sub-Saharan Francophone literatures and/or cultures (including other arts such as cinema, or different disciplines such as philosophy and anthropology). We will also consider candidates with a strong Maghrebian or Antillean background (20th-21st C.). Applicants should have native or near-native fluency in French.  Ph.D. required by appointment start date of July 1, 2020.  The department of Romance Studies has a longstanding commitment to theory and interdisciplinary research. It is the home of the journal diacritics and it has strong ties with other departments or programs, such as Comparative Literature, Africana Studies, Feminist Gender and Sexuality Studies, French Studies, or the Society for the Humanities.
