One-Year Visiting Assistant Professorship in Arabic Studies, Open Specialization beginning Fall 2021

 

We invite applicants for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in Arabic Studies for the academic year 2021-2022. Specialization open, with a preference for Maghrebi Studies. The teaching load is two courses per semester, and the successful candidate will teach a combination of Arabic language and non-language courses. We seek a committed and outstanding language teacher, with significant experience teaching a variety of Arabic language levels, as well as courses in their area of specialization. Candidates should have native or near-native fluency in Arabic; provide evidence of demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching of the Arabic language; and hold a Ph.D. in a relevant field by the beginning of their appointment on July 1st, 2021.

The cover letter should address the candidate's experience teaching the Arabic language and explain their teaching philosophy with detailed examples of successful teaching. The cover letter should also explain how the candidate is prepared to create inclusive learning communities for a diverse group of students as well as a description of specific courses they would be prepared to teach in an undergraduate liberal arts setting. Interviews will be held via Zoom and there will be no campus visit. Semi-finalist candidates will be asked for additional materials including 3 letters of recommendation and a video-recorded class session with a one-page written reflection on that recording. The search committee aims to make an offer in April, 2021.
