Watauga Residence College Teaching Fellow & Faculty in Residence

The Department of Interdisciplinary Studies at Appalachian State University invites applications for a teaching fellow at the rank of visiting assistant professor in Watauga Residential College.

We seek a candidate who holds a PhD or a terminal degree in their field of study. The degree field is open, but credentials to teach writing are required (for example, 18 graduate credit hours in Rhetoric/Composition). Candidates who are ABD will be considered, but the position requires completion of all doctoral requirements by the time of appointment.

We actively seek candidates who will diversify our faculty. Watauga Residential College aims at recruiting a widely diverse pool of students and we strive to have that same range among our faculty.

The teaching load is 9 credit hours per semester of core Watauga general education classes, with opportunity to teach in other departmental programs of study based on need and the candidate’s expertise.

The Watauga Residential College faculty are expected to engage students in curricular and co-curricular learning opportunities beyond the classroom, and to maintain an active presence in the lives of the students. The Faculty in Residence in particular is responsible for developing programming for and mentoring of WRC students (approximately ten hours per week, $500 program budget per year). A two-bedroom apartment in the Living Learning Center is provided, along with utilities and internet connection.
