Assistant Instructional Professor in Spanish

The Department of Romance Languages & Literatures and the Humanities Collegiate Division at the University of Chicago are accepting applications for up to three full-time, one-year renewable, benefits-eligible Assistant Instructional Professor positions in Spanish. Responsibilities will include teaching 7 courses in Spanish language per year across three quarters according to the needs of the program in addition to some administrative and/or coordinating duties.

Superior level of proficiency in Spanish as defined by ACTFL is required. An M.A. or equivalent in Hispanic literatures, linguistics, applied linguistics, translation, second-language teaching or acquisition or a related field is required by the start date of the position(s). Particular consideration will be given to candidates who specialize in heritage language learning, Spanish in the U.S., bilingualism, and languages in contact, especially within the context of the Americas. A minimum of one year of experience teaching Spanish at the college or post-secondary level and experience in the development of instructional materials is required. Required are ACTFL Superior-level proficiency (or equivalent) in Spanish, and Advanced-level (or equivalent) proficiency in English. Candidates must be able to demonstrate their language proficiency via certification or in the interview process. Ability to teach advanced-level language, heritage language courses, sociolinguistics and/or Spanish language for the professions is desirable.

These appointments will start on 1 September 2021.
