We invite applications for a two-year appointment as Visiting Assistant Professor in Anglophone world literatures. We seek a passionate teacher and scholar to join a thriving English department. A broadly trained colleague will help us deepen our offerings in Anglophone literatures from globally informed historical, comparative, and theoretical perspectives. Work in public humanities or digital humanities would also complement our commitments to innovation and civic engagement. 

The English Department at Colby is unusual among liberal arts colleges in offering majors both in English and in English with a concentration in Creative Writing. Many students from across campus also minor in English or in Creative Writing. We support a lively array of lectures, faculty work-in-progress seminars, and readings, and we foster both student and faculty research through grants and off-campus opportunities. Many Colby students and most English majors study abroad for at least one semester; our courses in Anglophone literatures provide a strong foundation for their understanding of cultural differences. 

Colby is a highly selective liberal arts college recognized for excellence in undergraduate education and close student-faculty interaction. We are especially interested in candidates who, through their scholarship, teaching and service will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the campus community. 

For this position we seek a teacher scholar with demonstrated teaching excellence and strong publications. Teaching responsibilities will include courses in the area of specialty, core requirements for majors, and one W1 writing-intensive course for first-year students.  PhD must be in hand no later than August 2021.
