Bard College at Simon’s Rock invites applications for a regular, full-time position in Chinese Language and Culture, beginning Fall 2021. Bard College at Simon’s Rock is a small, selective liberal arts college located in Berkshire County, Massachusetts. The College serves younger students eager to begin college early, with a freshman median age of 16. Bard Academy, our rigorous and creative high school program that opened in 2015, serves students at the 9th and 10th grade level. Regular faculty appointments at Bard College at Simon's Rock are for 3-, 4-, and subsequent 10-year contracts. Full-time faculty teaching load is 3/3 and our student-faculty ratio of 8:1 on average. Requirements for this position include a Ph.D. (ABD will be considered) in Chinese language, literature, linguistics, or a related field and a demonstrated ability to teach language and culture courses ranging from the introductory to the advanced undergraduate level. We seek faculty passionate about expanding educational opportunity and equity by bringing rigorous curricula to diverse student populations. A commitment to contributing to both our College and Academy curricula is essential, including our general education seminar courses. The successful applicant will bring an active research agenda and a commitment to growing the program and collaborating with other Asian Studies faculty.
