Assistant Professor - Hispanic Early Modern Literature and Culture

The Department of Hispanic and Italian Studies in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) invites applications for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor. We seek a scholar who specializes on Hispanic Early Modern Literature and Culture. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in one or more of the following sub-fields: Hispanic Transatlantic Studies; Early Modern Spanish Studies; Colonial Latin American Studies.

The Department of Hispanic and Italian Studies is comprised of an interdisciplinary group of scholars dedicated to working in a wide range of fields in literary studies, visual and material cultures, cultural studies, gender studies, human rights, ecological studies, religious studies, philosophy, and intellectual and political history. Faculty members have exceptional research and teaching opportunities as a result of collaborations and affiliations with other units in the college, as well as with UIC research centers such as the Institute for the Humanities.

The Department offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs, including a BA, MA, MAT, and PhD, and serves a diverse student body.

Duties include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, advising masters and doctoral students, pursuing an active research agenda, and contributing to the university and community through service activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will have a PhD, a substantive record of scholarship, and documented evidence of excellence in teaching.

The desired appointment date is August 16, 2020. Salary is competitive based on qualifications.
