Visiting Assistant Professor

Illinois Wesleyan University invites applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor in the English Department. This one-year position will begin in Fall 2021. Salary is competitive and provides excellent benefits.

Founded in 1850, Illinois Wesleyan University is a highly competitive small liberal arts institution located in Bloomington, IL.

The English Department offers a major with concentrations in Literature and Writing. We offer minors in Journalism and New Media as well as Creative Writing. A large percentage of our English majors also major in Education Studies. Many of our students study abroad, receive academic credit for internships, pursue independent studies, and conduct honors research. The English Department is committed to increasing the diversity of the campus community. 

Qualifications:

Candidates must have a PhD or be nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) in English, Comparative Literature, or a related field by August 1, 2021. We seek candidates who can teach courses that focus on African American literature, Asian American literature, diasporic studies, disability studies, gender studies, global literatures, Latinx literature, and/or Native American literature.

Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility will be to teach undergraduate English courses. The typical teaching load is three classes per semester, including one first-year writing course. Candidates who can contribute to the climate of inclusivity are encouraged to apply.
