Postdoctoral Associate in French Studies

The Department of Romance Studies at Duke University is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate in French Studies for a one-year position beginning Fall 2021. We welcome scholars with superior linguistic proficiency in French and a clear research agenda, and who have demonstrated teaching excellence and commitment to diversity in their teaching. Preference will be given to candidates who are able to teach courses in gender studies, medical humanities, 19th century studies, and/or global humanities. We especially encourage applications from members of groups that have been historically underrepresented in higher education. To that end, we invite candidates to explain how issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion are brought into their teaching, scholarship, and/or service in their application materials. While a Ph.D. is preferred at time of appointment, candidates in final stages of completing degree requirements for the Ph.D. may also be considered. Applicants will teach two advanced undergraduate courses in French each semester, with the opportunity to develop new courses in the spring semester. Candidates will be expected to participate in departmental activities and to present their research to the Romance Studies community. Please submit through AJO a CV, cover letter, evidence of teaching effectiveness (a statement of teaching philosophy, teaching evaluations, sample syllabi), a statement describing experience, training, or engagement with issues of diversity, equity and inclusion; and 3 letters of recommendation, at least one of which should speak to the candidate's teaching.
