Assistant professor of Spanish, AGFM

The University of Virginia Department of Spanish, Italian and Portuguese invites applications for an assistant professor of Spanish to join the academic general faculty. This appointment is expected to begin on August 25, 2021 and the core responsibilities of this position include teaching six courses per year, three each during the spring and fall terms. We seek candidates with a demonstrated commitment to teaching, a specialization in poetry, and expertise in modern peninsular literature and culture. The ideal candidate will be able to teach undergraduate courses in Spanish poetry, literature and culture, especially courses in creative writing (poetry), as well as the history and theory of Spanish poetry. Evidence of excellent teaching, scholarly accomplishment, a record of published poetry in Spanish and other languages, and engagement with international poetry events and conferences is preferred. The successful candidate must have native or near-native fluency in Spanish.

This is a three-year, tenure-ineligible appointment with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon available funding, satisfactory performance, and need for the position. 

The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. by the time of appointment in a relevant field of study such as poetry, and/or Peninsular literature.
