The program has been celebrated for its teaching excellence, genuine assessment practices, and pedagogical innovation. We are seeking an enthusiastic person to lead the program to continued excellence.

The First-Year Writing Program is part of an English Department that also houses a Writing Across the Curriculum Program, a Peer Tutoring Writing Center, majors in Writing and Literature, and minors in Creative Writing and Professional Writing. The Director of First-Year Writing shapes the mission and activities of the program, encourages innovative teaching, supports teachers in the program, and collaborates with faculty and administrators to meet students’ needs. This individual leads placement and assessment efforts, organizes teaching observations, prepares professional development opportunities, and works with the department chair to staff classes and hire part-time faculty.

In addition to teaching First-Year Writing courses, the successful candidate may also teach courses in Business, Professional, and/or Technical Writing. Candidates who can expand upon our existing strengths with specialties in Science Writing, Healthcare Writing, Government Writing, and/or Legal Writing are desirable. The university’s typical course load is 4/4. This position offers a 1/1 reduction for administrative duties.
