Lecturer/Coordinator - Spanish

The Department of Romance Languages at Binghamton University is seeking to hire a lecturer in Spanish, beginning in August 2021, to occupy the role of language coordinator. This is a full-time position of three years with possible renewal. The teaching load is two courses per semester, with the option to teach online during the winter and summer interterms. 

The language coordinator is expected to direct the elementary and intermediate language courses in Spanish, French, and Italian, in collaboration with the instructors. Specific tasks of this role include assessment of teaching materials and resources, curriculum development, and professional training (through class observations and workshops on different topics of interest). 

For this position, the department seeks an energetic candidate who possesses an interest and/or experience in advising students and supervising extracurricular organizations and activities. 

Moreover, the selected candidate should actively contribute to the University's mission of advancing a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion through research, teaching, mentoring, and service, as well as through engagement with faculty, students, and staff.

Candidates should hold an MA or PhD (or be ABD) in Spanish or a related field such as Linguistics, and be prepared to successfully teach language courses at all levels of the curriculum. Preference will be given to candidates with strong evidence of excellence in language teaching at the university level and with experience in leadership and teamwork. Applicants must have native or near/native fluency in Spanish and English. Near/native fluency in another Romance Language taught in the department is desirable.
