Instructor, Renewable, Portuguese & Spanish

The Department of Modern Languages and Classics at The University of Alabama is accepting applications for a full-time Instructor in Portuguese and Spanish, primarily responsible for teaching beginning-level courses in those languages. It is expected that all courses will be taught in person, with a start date of August 16, 2021. The initial appointment will be for three years with the possibility of renewal and includes benefits. We seek a candidate who has proven pedagogical skills, particularly in Portuguese and Spanish language instruction, and native or near-native command of Portuguese and Spanish. We are especially interested in candidates who can lead and develop our Portuguese program, including student recruitment, and work with the current faculty and program in Spanish. The ideal candidate will conduct research, preferably on Portuguese and/or Spanish language pedagogy but not excluding other fields, that may result in conference presentations and journal publications. Ph.D. in Portuguese, Spanish, or related field preferred; ABD will be considered.
