Assistant Professor, Rhetoric and Composition with specialization in Histories of Rhetoric

The Department of English at Illinois State University, located in Normal, Illinois, seeks an Assistant Professor in Rhetoric and Composition for a nine-month, tenure-track position, specializing in histories of rhetoric with an emphasis on rhetorics from and of underrepresented or non-Western cultures. The selected candidate will join an internationally recognized English Studies faculty; participate in delivering well-established undergraduate and graduate concentrations in rhetoric and composition; and help to further our commitments to diverse and global perspectives on rhetoric. This appointment will carry a 2/3 teaching load. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Candidates are required to have:

  • An earned doctorate in Rhetoric and Composition, or a closely related field by appointment start date
  • Evidence of promising scholarship in Rhetoric and Composition
  • A record of successful college teaching in Rhetoric and Composition
  • Oral proficiency in the English language, as mandated by state law

We additionally welcome candidates with expertise in any of the following: Latinx rhetorics; African American rhetorics; environmental justice rhetorics; other areas of cultural rhetorics.
