QUALIFICATIONS
Teaching responsibilities will include Elementary and Intermediate Spanish classes. Candidates must have excellent skills in Spanish and English as well as experience teaching language courses at the college level. Candidates must demonstrate commitment to, and excellence in, undergraduate teaching as informed by current practice and scholarship in the field. Ph.D. complete or near completion.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Please submit a letter of application, current curriculum vitae, a one-page statement on teaching philosophy and interests, transcripts, a link to a video of yourself teaching a Spanish language class, and two confidential letters of recommendation.
In your cover letter, in addition to describing your research and teaching interests, please address the ways you might contribute to and further the College’s core commitment to diversity and inclusion as a Jesuit liberal arts college (see http://www.holycross.edu/mission). Previous experience teaching, mentoring or advising diverse students populations is an asset. For more information, please visit
http://holycross.edu/diversity. To learn more about faculty life at the College, applicants are encouraged to visit http://holycross.edu/join.
The College of the Holy Cross uses Interfolio to collect all faculty job applications electronically. Please submit all application materials to https://apply.interfolio.com/85835.
Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position has been filled. The final date for candidates to post materials to Interfolio is April 30, 2021. Questions about this search may be directed to Prof. Cynthia Stone, Chair, Department of Spanish (cstone@holycross.edu).
Specific instructions for teaching demo: Please upload to Interfolio under “Teaching Portfolio” a document with a link to a digital recording of yourself doing a 10-minute teaching demo on the subjunctive in noun clauses, followed by a 5-minute discussion of the kinds of activities you would use for student practice. Please explain the concept as if you were teaching an in-person class, discuss the kinds of exercises you would use to practice it, and any related readings or other materials you would use with students in class. Alternately, if you have a pre-recorded class, you may edit 15 minutes of the class presentation and practice of a specific grammar point. The format could be a PowerPoint presentation on Zoom, a video in YouTube, Drop Box or a similar platform. Just be sure to include any passcodes required for access and make sure the platform does not restrict viewing to users from a particular institution or otherwise prevent access.
