Assistant Professor of English, Tenure-Track

The English Department of the College of General Studies at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, seeks to fill a tenure-track teaching position for the academic year 2021-2022.

Requirements and Preparation: Ph.D. or Ed.D. from an accredited university in TESOL, ESL/EFL, English Education, Bilingual Education, American Studies, Composition/Writing, Anglophone Literature (British or American), or Comparative Literature. Primary field of expertise should be in TESOL, ESL/EFL, or Bilingual Education, with additional experience in literature and/or composition desirable. The candidate should demonstrate commitment to teaching first-year students in English language acquisition and developmental English courses. Teaching experience at the college level, ability to conduct research in area of specialty, commitment to teaching excellence, experience with educational technology, fluency in English and some proficiency of Spanish, and experience with diverse student population. Applicants must have teaching experience in TESOL-ESL/EFL, knowledge of Interdisciplinary and General Education, and the required academic preparation. Candidates must have recent publications. Other requirements include: show commitment to conducting research or producing creative work; publication and dissemination of knowledge; experience in higher education; training in teaching different modalities effectively (in person, hybrid, and online); professional experience in the development of proposals; commitment to seeking external funds; and evidence of professional certifications. Responsibilities: The selected candidate will teach at the undergraduate level during the day, night, and Saturdays and through different modalities such as face-to-face and online. While teaching duties will be focused on ESL/EFL or developmental English courses, the candidate must also have the potential to teach courses in different departments in the College of General Studies and collaborate with efforts across disciplines. The candidate must publish articles in peer reviewed journals in area of expertise and/or in the area of teaching and learning; write proposals for external funding; actively participate in department, college, and university committees and activities. In addition, the candidate must comply with all the teaching responsibilities stated in the University of Puerto Rico bylaws.
