The English Department of Texas Christian University invites applicants for five (5) full-time positions as Instructor of Writing, a non-tenure-track, renewable position beginning in August 2021.
Applicants should demonstrate extensive scholarly knowledge of and experience in the teaching of composition/writing that intersect with two or more of the following areas of expertise: Indigenous rhetoric, decolonized rhetoric, decolonized pedagogies, translingualism, African American rhetoric, Black language and literacy, Latinx Rhetoric, Asian American rhetoric, disability studies, race and rhetoric, anti-racist pedagogies, critical whiteness studies, digital writing, digital rhetoric, multimodal and/or multimedia pedagogies, performance rhetoric/ popular culture (TV, film, music), rhetoric of science, queer rhetoric, feminist pedagogy, intersectional rhetoric/intersectionality and rhetoric.
The position requires teaching: 1) 6 sections of introductory level and intermediate writing per year; 2) 2 sections of specialty writing courses for the writing minor and major per year. The teaching load is 4-4. In addition to teaching duties, successful candidates will contribute to the writing minor/major and English department and participate in service duties, including advising undergraduates, shaping the major, and serving on departmental, college, and university committees.

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Composition and Rhetoric or a closely related field with specialization in Composition and Rhetoric from a regionally accredited institution at the start of employment. Teaching experience in first year writing is required. Commitment to and excellence in undergraduate writing instruction is also required. The finalists for the position will be asked either to submit a video of a teaching demonstration in front of students (approximately 45 minutes in length) or will be asked to give a teaching demonstration during a virtual interview.
