The Modern Language Association (MLA) seeks an administrative assistant for a full-time position to work collaboratively with the MLA staff in our convention and events office.
Responsibilities:
- Provides administrative assistance to the department
- Assists with preparing and distributing materials for the Program Committee
- Works with the director on communications with forum executive committees on convention sessions and forum reviews
- Monitors the general convention e-mail account and works with other members of the department to answer questions or forward messages to the appropriate staff members
- Assists with administrative tasks related to the international symposium and other MLA meetings and events
- Maintains expense records for the Program Committee, for convention programs staff travel, for convention-related expenses, and for symposium-related expenses
Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree required, preferably in a field of language or literature
- At least six months of cumulative clerical or administrative experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Google Workspace, and Zoom scheduling
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Solid organizational and interpersonal skills
