Postdoctoral Fellow in German

The Department of German at Northwestern University invites applications for a two-year post-doctoral position, beginning September 1, 2021.

A Ph.D. in German Studies or a related field, native or near-native proficiency in German, and evidence of scholarly potential and effectiveness in undergraduate teaching are essential.

The teaching load is two courses per year. The hire should be able to teach the canon of German literary and cultural history, with a focus on contemporary literature and culture. In addition, the ideal candidate should have proven expertise in one or more of the following subfields: Critical Race Theory, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Environmental Humanities, Performance Studies, History of Science and/or Medicine, or Film and New Media. The candidate should continue to reinforce the department’s participation in interdisciplinary initiatives such as the Program in Gender and Sexuality Studies, the Program in Critical Theory, and the Department of African-American Studies. We expect the hire to substantially contribute to the diversity, equity, and inclusivity goals of the German Department and Northwestern University.
