Lecturer of Italian

The University of Virginia’s Program of Italian Studies which offers two kinds of specialization at the undergraduate level, a minor concentration of courses and a major program leading to the B.A. or B.A. with distinction, invites applications for a position of Lecturer of Italian Studies on the academic general faculty, expected to begin August 25, 2021. We are particularly interested in candidates who can teach courses in Italian language and culture at the elementary and intermediate level. The core responsibilities include teaching five courses per year, three during the Fall, and two in the Spring. Some level of administrative service to the Program and/or the Department should also be expected.

This is a one-year, part-time, tenure-ineligible position (0.83 FTE).

A completed MA in Italian Studies at the time of the appointment is required, as are a native or near native proficiency of Italian, a strong commitment to teaching and a minimum of three years of teaching experience at the college or university level in the USA. Experience with new technologies in foreign language instruction and a familiarity with recent teaching methodologies are preferred.
