Visiting Assistant Professor of English

The English Department at Dominican University, River Forest, seeks a Visiting Assistant Professor with a specialization in African American literature for a position beginning Fall 2021 (August 15, 2021). The instructor will teach 3 classes in fall and spring semesters (6 classes total). Preferred specialization in black world studies and literature. Candidates must also be prepared to teach in the first-year Critical Reading, Writing, and Speaking course sequence; these skills-based courses are taught through disciplinary content chosen by the instructor.  

 

Successful candidates will have a record of supporting first-generation and Black and Latinx student populations with demonstrated effectiveness in helping students build criti­cal skills in reading and writing, while also promoting justice and preparing students for professional lives upon graduation. Candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to inclusive teaching and community building. The appointment is for one year, with a possibility of extending to a second year. While there is some flexibility in class modalities, such as face-to-face, hybrid, and online, the instructor needs to be able to be present on campus in person during the academic year 2021-22 (August 15, 2021-May 15, 2022) in order to participate in the on-campus community of teaching, learning, and service.

 

Qualifications:

Candidates must have a Ph.D. (or ABD) in English literature, with a focus on African American literature and related fields, and teaching experience.
