The Modern Language Association seeks a research specialist for a temporary, full-time position to work on a census of language enrollments at colleges and universities in the United States. This temporary position is projected to last through 31 August 2022. The research specialist will prepare mailings, enter institutional responses, maintain mailing lists, proofread data printouts, and contact nonrespondents.
Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree and have good writing, proofreading, and interpersonal skills. Attention to detail is essential. The candidate must have good computer and phone skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word. Basic familiarity with data gathering and analysis techniques is a plus, as is familiarity with Microsoft Access and Excel.
The MLA provides generous vacation and sick time, flexible work hours, a 403(b) retirement plan, and individual health and dental plans with no shared premium cost. This will be a full-time, primarily remote position through the summer and partially on-site position at the MLA offices in downtown New York City starting in the fall. Candidates must be able to work legally in New York State.
