The Department of English at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a one-year renewable Visiting Assistant Professor position teaching First-Year Writing courses. This position will begin on August 23, 2021 and will be located at the UConn Stamford campus.

Located in the most visible and economically productive county in the state, UConn Stamford provides a top-ranked research university education delivered in the intimate climate of an urban liberal arts college.
The ideal candidate will bring to this position an engaged understanding of composition pedagogies and approaches as well as experience teaching a diverse range of students who are entering multiple disciplines and emergent interdisciplines on the Stamford campus. In addition to a background in rhetoric, composition, active learning, Universal Design for Learning, multimodal composition, and working with multilingual students, the candidate must demonstrate engagement with recent developments in the fields of writing, rhetoric, and composition at the post-secondary level. These qualifications will be put to use as the candidate implements our innovative approach to writing and composition; the successful candidate will serve as a model for the new program as it is rolled out on the Stamford campus and play an active role in the First-Year Writing program.
The candidate will teach three courses per semester (six per year) with advising duties as part of a multi-campus writing program; the position reports to the Storrs Campus First-Year Writing program administration.

Completion of all requirements for the Ph.D. in Rhetoric/Composition, English, or a closely related field by the start date of employment and evidence of a strong commitment to undergraduate education in writing studies. The candidate must have experience teaching college-level writing with some graduate coursework in linguistics, rhetoric and composition, and/or second language acquisition through writing.
Evidence of engagement with current trends in writing studies and college-level writing, as well as experience teaching composition in English to students at a college or university utilizing traditional in-person formats and remote learning/online platforms.
This is a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure track teaching position that carries a 3-3 teaching load, and specific First-Year Writing program advising duties. The person holding this position reports directly to the First-Year Writing Director and the Department Head of English. The position may be renewed annually and is located in Stamford.
