Tenure-track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in German Studies

Rice University’s Department of Modern and Classical Literatures and Cultures seeks to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in German Studies, with a specialization in at least one of the following areas: Black German Studies, Turkish German Studies, German Colonialism, Immigration and Multiculturalism in Germany, or Environmental Humanities. Candidates with additional expertise in at least one of the following areas are strongly preferred: Sexuality and Gender, German Literature since 1900, Political Theory, Cinema and Media Studies, or History of Science and Medicine. Candidates must have completed their Ph.D. by July 1, 2022. Native or near-native proficiency in German is essential. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses and continue research in their area(s) of expertise. Rice University has a semester-based teaching schedule with a 2-2 teaching load. Opportunities for interdisciplinary research projects and innovative teaching within and beyond Rice’s School of Humanities are plentiful and a high priority.
