Assistant Professor of English

Grace College invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of English, to begin fall 2020. We seek a world literature expert (open period, open specialty) with broad teaching interests. We are especially interested in candidates with expertise in one or more of the following additional areas: drama, linguistics, composition, and/or creative or journalistic writing. Responsibilities include teaching, advising, service, scholarly activity, and professional development. In addition to teaching world literature courses and courses in his or her areas of specialty, the successful candidate will teach some core courses including Global Perspectives, First-Year Foundations, and/or Effective Writing. There are also opportunities to work with international and ESL students, and to participate in faculty-led international trips and exchange programs.

Grace College is a Christ-centered Liberal Arts College informed by pietist and evangelical traditions. Located in the resort community of Winona Lake, near Warsaw, Indiana (36 miles west of Ft. Wayne), Grace College offers 52 academic majors (38 minors). Central to our mission is developing character, sharpening competence, and preparing for service. The Department of Languages, Literature, and Communication is housed within the School of Arts and Sciences. Small but active and collegial, our department sponsors many activities including writers’ workshops, a forensics team, a literary magazine, and an annual trip to the Stratford Theatre Festival. We welcome an innovative colleague who is enthusiastic about designing new courses, mentoring students, fostering intellectual community, and engaging in interdisciplinary collaboration.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A doctorate in the field of English literature with a focus on world literature or comparable area (for example, comparative, global Anglophone, Asian, African, Latin, or Caribbean literature).
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience in higher education.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to collaborate with colleagues and students.
  • Evidence of scholarly achievement and potential.
  • A strong commitment to the mission and values of a Christian liberal arts institution.
  • A desire to integrate faith and learning.
