Assistant Professor, Technical Communication

The University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) Department of English invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Technical Communication, to begin August 2020. The Department offers Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Technical Communication. The ideal candidate will have an active research agenda and expertise in one or more of the following areas: medical and/or science writing, environmental writing, project management, user experience, digital publishing, and legal writing. Experience teaching at the university level, applying for external grants, and/or working in industry is preferred. Ability or willingness to teach online is required. The successful candidate will teach upper-division and graduate courses in their area(s) of specialization as well as TCOM 3302: Business and Technical Report Writing. Publications in the candidate’s field of expertise and university service are required for tenure. The teaching load is 4/3 with adjustments for graduate teaching. A PhD in a relevant field is required by initial appointment.
