Assistant Professor of Spanish

The University of Rochester Department of Modern Languages and Cultures (http://www.sas.rochester.edu/mlc/) invites applications for a tenure track position as Assistant Professor in Spanish, with a specialization in the literature and cultures of the Hispanophone Caribbean and its diaspora. We are seeking a candidate with a strong research program and the ability to teach a variety of undergraduate courses including advanced composition, Spanish American literature and culture, in addition to upper-level electives in area of specialization. Teaching load is two courses per semester (4 courses a year) primarily for undergraduates in humanities disciplines across the college. Candidates who incorporate interdisciplinary approaches to teaching Latinx studies and issues of race, class, and immigration across urban contexts is a pluswill be strongly considered a plus.  There is also the opportunity to lead summer study abroad programs to Spain/Spanish America.

 

Applicants must have a Ph.D. by time of appointment and native or near-native command of Spanish and English. Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to diversity and equity are particularly encouraged to apply.

 

Faculty in MLC teach core Comparative Literature courses for all majors in the department and have the opportunity to contribute to the University’s strong interdisciplinary programs in the Frederick Douglass Institute for African and African-American Studies, the Susan B. Anthony Institute for Gender & Women’s Studies, Literary Translation Studies, Film and Media Studies, Digital Media Studies, and the Graduate Program in Visual and Cultural Studies and digital media.
