Assistant or Associate Professor of African American Literature

The Department of English at Arcadia University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position beginning fall 2020. We seek an individual with primary expertise in 20th/21st century African American/Africana Literature, with additional experience in Digital Humanities and teaching on multiple platforms. We expect to hire at the Advanced Assistant or Associate Professor level.

Responsibilities

Arcadia University has a 3/3 teaching load. The successful candidate will teach a required undergraduate course in African American Literature, courses in theory and writing, Africana Literature electives, and also support the English Graduate program. Faculty members are expected to provide service to the department and university, including student advising and committees Successful candidates will maintain an active scholarly research and publication agenda.

Qualifications

Requirements include a Ph.D. in English (African American Literature) or African American Studies (with a focus in Literature) and university level teaching experience; evidence of interdisciplinary interests; and the willingness to collaborate within the Department and across the university. An established record and high level of professional activity relative to rank is expected, along with a substantial knowledge of topics, issues, and major trends within African American/Africana Literature. Expertise in creative writing and poetry would strengthen the application.
