Tufts University invites applicants for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of English. Ph.D. must be awarded by August 2022.  Evidence of superior scholarship and teaching excellence required.

Candidates should have a research concentration in American literature before 1900 with a focus on the diverse ethnic traditions in the US before and after its founding.  We are seeking creative engagements with the multiplicity of issues and narrative traditions developing during this formative period.  Candidates with research and teaching expertise in Indigenous, Latinx, and/or African American writing in English and who have additional interests in critical race studies, gender studies, colonialism studies, and/or environmental humanities are especially encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach the American literature survey and a broad range of undergraduate courses and graduate seminars and to mentor students writing senior theses and doctoral dissertations.
