Truman State University

Truman State University, a highly selective, public liberal arts and sciences university with an innovative Master of Arts in Education program, is conducting a tenure-track search for an assistant professor in English Education to begin in August 2022.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate English and English Education courses and sharing supervision of Master in Arts in Education teaching interns with the program’s other English educator.  Scholarly activity and output appropriate to the rank consistent with Truman’s teacher-scholar model is expected. Additional duties after the first year include advising, mentoring of students, and service to the University and community. 

 

Required qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in English, Ed.D. in English Education, or terminal degree in closely related field.  ABD will be considered with Ph.D./Ed.D. completion required by August 15, 2022
  • A current certification to teach English Language Arts at the secondary level.  If not certified in Missouri, must demonstrate potential to be certified in Missouri
  • Secondary teaching experience
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills in English
  • Commitment to the liberal arts and sciences with emphasis on undergraduate and graduate student development and accomplishment

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in student-centered teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses in English Education and in literature
  • Preparation in secondary education and experience with supervision of field experiences related to secondary education
  • Expertise in theory of teaching English, including theory of teaching literature
  • Record of or demonstrated potential for relevant scholarly activity
  • Evidence of and/or demonstrated potential for encouraging and mentoring students in transformative learning experiences such as student research, service learning, and internships
  • Evidence of and/or demonstrated potential in specialization areas that add to the breadth of departmental offerings
  • Interest and background in interdisciplinary and/or cross-disciplinary teaching, scholarship, and service

 

Salary: Salary is commensurate with experience and education. The benefits package includes life, health and disability insurance, retirement contributions, and reimbursed assistance for moving expenses. The awarding of tenure and promotion is based on success in the University’s teacher-scholar model.

  • Copies of undergraduate and graduate transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable); and
  • Three recent letters of recommendation.
