Assistant Professor of French Studies

The Department of French Studies at Smith College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin July 1, 2022.  We seek an innovative and experienced teacher specializing in pre-1900 literature and cultures. The successful candidate’s research and teaching should situate France and French culture in a transnational framework. Candidates with interdisciplinary approaches encompassing new media, data sciences, and/or environmental humanities are encouraged to apply.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in French or Francophone Studies or a directly related field by the time of appointment, native or near-native fluency in French and English, and experience with current practices for teaching French as a second language. Successful candidates should be prepared to engage actively with diverse students across the liberal arts, participate in the development of the French undergraduate curriculum, and engage in the cultural, academic, and scholarly life of the department. Candidates from groups underrepresented in literary and cultural studies are encouraged to apply.
