Global Media and Information, Assistant or Associate Professor

The International Studies Department at Macalester College invites applications for a tenure-track professor in the interdisciplinary field of Global Media and Information. The appointment will begin September 2020. Candidates must have completed a Ph.D. by August 2020. 

 

At Macalester, International Studies takes an interdisciplinary approach to exploring the dynamics of globalization, focusing on the interconnections of politics, society, culture, economics, and ecology. Successful candidates will have research and teaching interests in fields such as the Internet, global video/television/film/radio, telecommunications, worldwide news and information, or cross-border mediation of ideas and experiences. The history, sources, migration, distribution, audiences, aesthetics, and gender and racial dimensions of media, information, technology and culture are all of interest. Candidates trained in any humanities or social science discipline are encouraged to apply. This position will link to Macalester’s Media and Cultural Studies department and major. Strong candidates will have a record of experience or demonstrated commitment to teaching diverse students. We seek candidates of broad geographic reach, preferring those with research or teaching expertise in East Asia, South Asia, the Indian Ocean sphere, the Islamic world, and/or Latin America.
